A night to remember with Moguai
Written by Will Yee
Let me preface this with the disclaimer that I’ve never been to Vessel in San Francisco until the Moguai stepped into the building. Let me follow that by saying that it definitely won’t be the last time. Last Friday we were blessed with an amazing show by German legend Moguai. Known globally for his melodic, powerful sound and signed to the elusive Mau5trap label, Moguai has had a massive resurgence in recent years.
The night began with local talent G-stav with a special birthday set, opening for the German legend. Priming the crowd with an of excellent selection of vocal tracks as well as pounding bass, G-stav had the crowd jumping.
As the clock struck midnight Moguai took the booth and immediately started firing on all cylinders. Armed with recent hits from his album Mpire such as Lyme and of course the title track, Mpire, Moguai took us deep into the night with his unique blend of electro-house. Vessel was the perfect environment for the sounds of Moguai, I can’t stress enough how much of a difference an intimate venue makes. The intimacy of the club made for the softer electro melodies to reverberate through the entire club to the door, and the heavy bass to shake the room. Closing the night with his infamous remix of Bangduck, one could not help but feel that their house addiction had been filled.
All in all, a wonderful night of music by Moguai and G-stav, and an excellent production and hosting by Vessel SF and Select Entertainment. We can’t wait for Moguai to return again to the city to show us how electro-house should be done! Big shoutout to Chris from Select for having us, be sure to not miss out on their next event with Hook N Sling on 2/23/13!
